Caroline, as if often the case, has been on a search for Darcy. A search that will finally lead her to find him at his desk and greet him with a curtsey.

"Good day, Mr. Darcy."

"No. Everything. And surely you must know that."

"I find that hard to believe, Miss Bingley." Darcy smiles a bit, challenging her. "You have always seemed to me to be a woman who knows her own mind."

"I do, Mr. Darcy. And I find it agrees with most everything you say." Yes, she rather fails at articulating her feelings.

"That level of acquiescence simply can't be healthy."

[bitchybingley]

She just sighs. "If you don't see it now, Mr. Darcy, I daresay you never will."

[proud_pemberley]

He blinks, baffled. "See what, precisely?"

[bitchybingley]

"Why do you think I've not yet settled on a husband?"

[proud_pemberley]

Well, this is awkward.

"... You're still young."

[bitchybingley]

"Hardly too young to be married, Mr. Darcy. No, it is simply because I have already found who I wish to wed, and I do not think I could ever settle for any other person."

"Surely it isn't wise to be so single-minded, Miss Bingley, until you are at least engaged."
