I've been meaning to make a One Direction post for a little while now, and I noticed that eponymous said she couldn't tell them apart in her latest post so I thought I'd do a picspam as a little intro. :)

I haven't read most of these fics, so thanks! We need to get our our act together over at 3point5seats and start reccing! Also, your pics are all perfect examples of why we named the comm the way we did. They never use more than 3 and a half seats between the five of them.

I might go over and post the recs actually, I hadn't thought of the comm as a place for that (I feel like it's been a while since I was actively involved in a fandom and I've forgotten some of the basics, sigh.)

I have been loving all the footage and pictures from the Chicago concert (that was the one with the shirt ripping and the Zayn/Liam moments, wasn't it?) Ugh, you guys are so lucky to have seen it live! :)

Gay age of consent when I was a teen was 18 but they lowered it to 16 in line with the hetero one when I was about 20ish? Soooo yeah he's legal.

Firstly, I love the title.

And secondly, thank you! How nice of you to make a primer post. I can see now that the reason I don't know which one is which is because three of them are white guys with puffy brown hair. That's just bad planning. It's like they don't know the first rule of putting a boyband together is that everyone's a separate type.

Thank you so much for the recs, too. I tried one of them and it was, indeed, hot like burning. I'm not feeling very invested in these boys so far, but I suppose if there's well-written sexytimes on the offering, it'd be rude not to at least look at them. Right?

Yeah, they've been working on the hair thing - I think all the brunettes have differently shaped hair now, so hopefully that will help! (Also, Niall is naturally brown-haired but has been told he's not allowed to go back to it, heh).

The boyband rule thing is interesting - I do get the feeling that despite being as manufactured as you can get, they seem less bound by rules/types than previous incarnations. And like you said, they don't dance (well, they do, but loosely and whenever the hell they feel like it).

You can see Wade (yes, THAT Wade) trying to choreograph them in the video below and it's hilarious because it he seems resigned to letting them walk semi-co-ordinatedly across the stage at approximately the same time, while they do whatever the hell they want (dance a jig, air drum, ignore Wade). :D
I also plan to picspam the hell out of all the possible pairings because there's so much (adorable) canon but I tried to limit myself here to each individual. But yes! The rule of fannish osmosis means you don't need to canon to

Oh, Wade. You totally know what he's thinking. He tries not to remember that time in his life, his glorious months of best friendship with Justin before he screwed everything up. Then he goes home and maybe cries a little.

I've also been wondering -- do 1D have the vocal range that Backstreet and (especially) 'N Sync did? The guy with the very high voice, the bass guy, etc? I didn't hear a lot of rich harmonies on the album, but recording does tend to flatten vocals down.

Well, they're not a 5-part vocal group the way *nsync was, and ironically Liam tends to handle both the low and high falsetto harmonies a lot of the time. None of them are true basses.

You don't hear their harmonies very well on the album at all; you should really look for their acoustic performances for that, as they can be quite lovely.
