Things have been a bit quiet around here lately, so I'm wondering what suggestions you have for stirring things up a bit. What would make you more likely to participate?

Suggestions/ideas/brainstorming all appreciated!

I'm up for pretty much anything that promotes more discussion of the books. Maybe we could have a similar set of questions for each book (who's your favourite character? What themes in the story did you find interesting? In what way can you relate the story to your life / to the real world? etc) in addition to having book-specific questions.

I don't know if I'm in the minority but I kind of love all those english-class style discussions on books. I find story analysis really enjoyable. So I'm definitely likely to participate in things like that.

I didn't read last month's book due to stress at work, but I plan to snag this month's soon :)

How about a Skype book meeting? I was born and raised in Toronto and used to split my time between Toronto and Windsor. Then work sent me to northern Alberta to cover the oil industry. It's not the most literary community, that's for sure :(

One thing I've thought about doing is posting a book review for something I'm working on at work. My medico pay does this "Suggest a summer reading book," where select journalists publish a review of a book we recommend for the summer.

Mine is supposed to go out in mid-July. I have yet to submit my entry to my editor. Even though I'm sure this violates Sun Media's social media policy. (yes, I work for the Sun. It's awful), would you guys be interested in giving me feedback if I posted it?

This is the closest I've ever come to "creative writing."

I actually approached one of the authors of the candidate books (his wasn't selected) and asked if they would be interested in participating in a Skype book meeting. Without revealing any details, I described a small group of readers who would enjoy discussing the book with the author. I got a very positive response. Maybe we should consider this after the next book is selected, or even use the author's willingness to engage this way when selecting a book.

I honestly have been swamped with stuff this summer and haven't even been checking this comm. If I had to guess I'd say a lot of people are busy with it being summertime and will probably be back around come autumn.

I like thewebmisstress's idea about more generic questions as well as book-specific questions. I am done school now, and would be up for starting this again. :)
