Lay-ups and Long Shots

An anthology of short stories by Joseph Bruchac, Lynea Bowdish, David Lubar, Terry Trueman, CS Perryess, Dorian Cirrone, Jamie McEwan, Max Elliot Anderson, and Peggy Duffy. 112 p. Darby Creek/ Lerner Publishing. September, 2008. (Purchased for school library collection.)

This slim volume features eight stories about sports of all sorts by children and YA adult authors. These are not stories about sports glory, but about young people who don't quit or have a passion for their chosen sport. There's a basketball story by Joseph Bruchac, a Ping-Pong story by David Lubar, and a track race by Lynea Bowdish among others. Each story is unique and readable. Students can browse by author or sport or just read each one.

My only quibble is the title, which implies that it is a collection of basketball short stories.
