The Rat rears his head.

I really think people give Splinter a bit too much of a short shrift... Firstly, HE's A RAT. No matter how well socialized he is, he is dealing with 4 children who wish to have a bonding experience that Splinter himself never actually had. Rat daddies are likely to EAT the offspring if wishing to get extra nookie or have more space in their living ( Read more... )

The locating of dyes to protect the most desired items or the cutting of the blanket. Or the making it into a huge lecture about familial obligation and unity. (I had to add that because hello- ASIAN cultural underpinning to the rat.)

Do note that each child got enough of the blanket so they could have the way they wanted to hold the comfort blanket catered to at the same time. opps, bedtime will reply to other post later....

How he divided it so everyone had what was most important to them, but did so in a way that emphasized unity rather than separation and selfishness.

Lol, don't worry, I go days without replying sometimes if other things take me away from LJ.

That was a really cute story and you did such a great job with Splinter's resolution for the tots. Can't wait to see the next part of this!

Actually, despite everything I wanted to have happen with this the blanket is so taking over.

It's asking for a small addendum, a pre-quell and a short bit much farther along in the turtles lives. The last will be prior to the battles with the mousers that drove them from their home.

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm over this small item. It came to me really quick just as all my story ideas do and just by exploring it the characters really offered up pieces for me. I just hope to continue improving my writing with all the feedback.

The little addendum will have a brief appearance of tot!Mikey and make it clear why it was "fair" to give Mikey the lionshare of the blanket.

It's amazing how, with a simple issue, you got to describe their everyday life! Splinter's teaching is appropriate, he couldn't explain such concepts with difficult words, so he just used a single and pratical gesture. It makes me think that's the point of their separation, with their shared blanket once whole, now cut in parts and given to each of them...it's kind of sad, I hoped they would sleep together with the right position so they could all fit in...ok I'm not that wise XD
Another thing I liked a lot is Donatello's scrupulous observance of his brother's way to sleep along with his own...really cute and well characterized ^.^
I'll be waiting for the next part!

Seriously, I have a psychology BA and I'm not afraid to use it!
(I actually got it with the intent to learn how to write better characters for my original novels-- that have now revealed the fact they are a series of novels each-- and get a day job in some counseling position.) So, if you need me to talk you thru the trauma I can, And a tad bit of exposition ( ... )
