My dad burst my bubble for applying to USC's School of TV/Cinema in 2001 when he said that "It was very optimistic of me to think of being accepted when I had a C in anatomy."

You've got the right idea... Just get out there and live out your dream. Best thing to do is make contacts out there so you can bunk with friends instead of living in a motel or the YMCA. Build a support system so you won't have to deal with your dad if shit happens.

Oh, I've already decided once I move out there, I'm not moving back. I'll come home for the holidays and that's it.

He's right about the expense factor, but you know, I get that life is not easy. He didn't have to be such a dickhead about it.

regardless of thinking "everywhere is expensive," california is an entirely different story. cost of living here is crazy expensive. to get an idea, check out housing ads on craigslist.

The thing is, this was just an open house I was invited to. I haven't even applied or enrolled yet, and this was my father's reaction.

That's awful! I'm sorry you had to deal with that *hugs* My parents discouraged me going to art school, but they never went that far with it! Yes, you do it and prove him wrong. Good luck!
