Or more harder to bear, but I guess for some, memories can be good enough to influece. People tend to go one way or another.

Depending on your outlook, it gets easier with time to bear painful memories. I strongly believe in that most of us have far more good memories than bad ones, otherwise the majority of us were to be in mental institutions.

I really couldn't agree more. The painful memories are even more important in some ways than the happier ones, because we grow as people when we suffer, not when we are happy and content. We learn from that pain and develop as individuals, and to ignore or to try to forget those moments is to deny yourself to opportunity to learn from them.
