[X-Men] 'What You Can't Touch'

May 31, 2006 21:45

Written for the May 31st theme on 31_days: 'There are traces of blood in a fairy tale'. Because I've been reading too many early 90's X-Men comics and Rogue seems like the type to believe in fairy tales (well, at least she did, back then). Inspired more or less by X-Men #45, and more specifically by this panel. Also, the ending makes less sense without ( Read more... )

This was in one word: Extraordinary

I love how you wrote it and it was beautiful. Question though, where did the quote on the bottom come from?

Oh, thank you. XD

And both the quotes come from issue #45 of X-Men from all the way back in 1995. ^_^;;.

"I could steal all the gold in the world and it wouldn't be worth the price of your love. I told you before, I steal hearts and yours is the only one I want. The only one worth winning."

His words were sincere, and the girl considered him for a moment, "Even knowing knowing that if you touch me, you will die?" she wondered.

And he said: "It would be a touch worth dying for."

Oh, man, you have a knack for hitting why a 'ship works (or doesn't but is still fun) in just a few lines. NOW I WANT MORE ROGUE/GAMBIT.

Love.

I hope I get why Rogue/Gambit works considering I've been OTPing it since I was eight years old. o__O

And awww, thanks. I've loved X-Men for nearly my entire life, but this is the first fic I've ever written for it (and most likely the last, unless I get random 'Age of Apocalypse' drabbling urges because... well, AoA=♥).

I wish I could rec you some Remy/Rogue fics, but unfortunately (or fortunately? XD), it's one of those pairings where I'd rather go to the canon source for it. Uhhh... want me to YSI you some particularily shippy issues?

Yes.

Because I can never have enough fandoms. And Rogue/Remy is one of my OTPs. I don't even like shipping them with anyone else except Rogue/Logan in the movies before the third one came out and sucked.

movie!Rogue doesn't count. As a character, I mean, she doesn't count. Although I can see movie! Logan/Rogue... that would be kind of adorable. Still wouldn't make me like movie!Rogue, however. :P

Anyways, I offer you LOTS OF COMICS!

X-Men #24, which takes place right after Illyana dies of the Legacy virus. :( It includes lots of people angsting, boring Scott/Jean relationship crap stuff and Gambit and Rogue hitting the town in randomly extravagent clothing.

Uncanny X-Men #297, which might be a little out of place considering it's the tail end of a long arc involving lots of Summers' family angst. o__O Still, I offered you shippy. Oh, and adorable stuff with Jubilee and Xavier abounds in this issue as well. ♥ C'mon, who can resist the sight of the Prof. rollerblading?

Then there's LegionQuest, which is a beautiful story about the end of the world. I'm sending you the entire thing because it was a good arc. XD And there's lots of awesome Magneto-Xavier friendship stuff in it as well!
Uncanny X-Men #320
X-Men #40
Uncanny X-Men #321

I dropped out of X-Men at least a decade ago, and hadn't paid much attention besides a shallow interest in the movies, but oh man, Rogue and Gambit always were my favorites and reading this was like a brick to the head. In the best way. Awesome. The fairy tale style makes it even more gorgeous.

Thank you. XD I always like it when I can, uh, brick people in a way that makes them feel good?

My interest in X-Men is sporadic, but no matter how much I try to pick up the more modern storylines I always just end up falling back on the classics. Probably has something to do with the fact that I grew up on the cartoon which was basically a simplified adaption of all the really famous arcs. ^__^

And I'm glad I pulled of the fairy tale style effectively. For something so simplistic, I agonized over the wording WAAAY too much. o_O

Oh, thank you. ♥ The ending was really difficult to write FOR NO GOOD REASON, MIND YOU.

And getting people to remember the glories of their old X-Men obsessions is totally my day job this week. o__O

Man, this takes me back to when I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons waiting for xmen to show up... Ah, Rogue and Gambit. I've always loved those two together. I was all ftw?! when the movie came out... one cause Gambit wasn't there and two, Rogue was all *not* her. -____ ( ... )
