Actually, finding reliable information about this is tricky. Scoping out the CDC and the Alan Guttmacher Institute may be helpful, though the numbers are a few years old. The last bit of info I heard, it was less than 1 abortion-related deaths per 100,000 legally induced abortions. The pregnancy-related mortality ratio was something like nine per 100,000.
Though like I said, those numbers are a few years old. I'm thinking that things are a little better by now, and like you said, it IS rather low.

The problem is that abortion-related deaths are sometimes reported as being from other things.

Or, as I'm finding more to be the case, some states don't bother reporting anything. It's rather irritating, I must admit.

Actually, the only difference in the abortions is the form of payment. The procedure is still the same.

Yeah, just to reiterate what's been said...since abortion isnt usually covered by insurance and you dont even have to be an MD to perform one, deaths are usually attributed to something else "to protect the patient's privace." Like...if you hemmorage...they just report that, and not why.

carrying a baby to term is safer than abortion for at least one person involved, and i am convinced the safest choice for both, above and beyond any moral strings i attach.

Actually, I read up on this. There are many factors.

The statistics for this are often wrong. Partly because the information is hard to gather. Women who die because of an abortion are often listed as dying from a hemmorage as opposed to the real cause - abortion. Also, these statistics only take into account DEATH rates, not injury. Apparently injury rates for childbirth are relatively low related to the rates for abortion, but this is not expressed when talking of death rates.

Interestingly enough, abortion has been known to actually cause complications in later pregnancies. So some of the complications these women face in their pregnancies might actually be caused by abortion itself...

I wonder what the pro-choicers have to say to that.
