36. I am impoliteSometimes I think good manners and common courtesies that seem to be engrained in other people are as far outside of my nature as they can possibly be. For example, if someone is reaching across me to grab something, it doesn't occur to me to grab it and pass it to them until long after the moment has passed. If someone drops ( Read more... )

Actually, The tax thing is common. Your dad's accountant probably did that because that is his job.
My parent's accountant did the same thing. They put all the papers together that needed to go to Federal and rubberbanded an envelope around the papers with the address and a stamp. Same for State.
There was a little note that said "sign page 3 then send in with a check for bla bla then mail to bla bla." Which was already on the envelope. They just don't want you to screw it up I guess. They are good those accountants. So my point is your Dad probably didn't do that. You are not spoiled. You are great.

No, the envelopes are addressed in my dad's handwriting.

this is why people in my generation aren't counting on people in your generation to take care of us when we get old. you guys can't even do your own taxes.
yeah, maybe that's a little harsh. but am I wrong?

ps: hiring your own accountant isn't that expensive, and you can write off the fee on next years taxes.

yes, you see, my accountant told me that. when you sit face to face with your accountant, you can have conversations like, "oh, did you buy such and such? you can write that off, you know. how much did you spend on that? are you *sure* you didn't spend more?" Which may not happen if your parents' accountant does it for you. This way, you get more money back. everyone wins.

Until this year my dad's accountant did my taxes. Because until this year he claimed me as a dependent. But last year, the guy kind of fucked ours up a bit, so even though he would have continued to do them for me, I quietly took care of it on my own. It only takes about an hour with Turbo Tax. It's really no big, since I'm not married, I don't have a house, etc.
