The Village of Verde?
Everybody knows the story of Hansel and Gretel. But what if it wasn't a candy house that they've found, but a village?
The Village of Verde is a large community located in the middle of the Dark Woods, almost a city if not for the lack of access to the outside world. There is a well in the center that provides the villagers with water, and everything is provided for. Shelter, clothes, food - everything is free, and aside from little skirmishes here and there, the neighbors all live happily with one another.
The people in Verde are generally very open-minded as far as sex is concerned. They do not share the same reservations that those in the outside world may have. Sex is sex and it doesn't matter who you do it with as long as both (or all) parties consent to it. It is not usual for students to excuse themselves from lectures or for shops to show the "closed" sign in the middle of the day so that people can have a quick moment or two to themselves and their partners. Monogamy is a concept that most do not share either. Everything is shared, nobody is somebody else's property.
Everything is perfect, despite having a curfew. At sundown, everybody is expected to remain indoors as the guards patrol the place to keep it safe from the monsters that roam in the forest around. But these monsters never bother the villagers in the day, so as long as you stay at home at night, you are safe.
Or so you think.
In reality, Verde is a social experiment. Your character has been kidnapped from their home by Grimm and brainwashed into believing that they have lived in this village all their lives. The people are amorous because the well -the only source of water in this village- is drugged with aphrodisiac. Occasionally, you may have visions that recall your previous life, but they don't usually last long or happen frequently enough to bother you.
Grimm?
They are the ones behind this entire operation. It is unsure why they are even doing this, or how they can manage to bring in people from across different times and dimensions. That doesn't matter, however. What matters is that you are here, and you are not leaving. Thanks to the drug that is in the water, your character will constantly be eager to have sex, and the Grimm will watch from wherever they are.
So what if my character refuses to have sex?
Sexual intercourse is not something to be ashamed of in Verde, especially if you are constantly compelled to do so by the drug that is in the water supply. However, if your character recalls enough of their past to show apprehension towards sex, they will be taken away by the city guards to be brainwashed again. They will lose all past memories that they've recalled previously and will not remember what happened to them during the time when they were taken away, except that they have done something terribly terribly wrong.
What's stopping them from running away?
Nothing, except that everybody knows the monsters that stay in the forest around the village are vicious and to venture out without a city guard will mean a certain painful and very messy death. Word has it that those who are attacked by the monsters turn into monsters themselves, returning during the night to prowl the village for unfortunate victims.
What exactly happens at night?
If you have the misfortune to be out after curfew, you will soon wish you don't. Prowling the streets are the monsters that everybody has talked about but most people have not seen. What makes it worse is that these monsters take the face of those who have disappeared from the village, except a little different. They may be missing an eye, a limb or part of their skull; they are hungry for blood. In reality, the Grimm have caught up with those who escaped the village and carried out other, less humane experiments on them. If they are useless in Project Verde, they can be useful in other ways. Waste not, want not.
What does my character do here?
The same thing they do everywhere. Remember, your character believes that they have been born and raised in this village, with the memories to match. They can be a student at the village school, a waiter at the tavern, or a priest in the local church. They have jobs, and they have friends.
Technology Level
Verde is created with a Renassiance Europe village in mind. Modern facilities like cars, trains and computers are not available. There are horses though, for transportation, and other beasts of burden. It is just fortunate that the aphrodisiac in the water supply doesn't seem to work on animals.
Powers, weapons?
If your characters have any powers or weapons in their canon, they will be taken away. Physical features such as supernatural strength, telepathy, pointed ears however remain but nobody in the village will find it strange or foreign.
Can my character get pregnant?
No. There's something in the water that prevents pregnancy from happening.
Can my character die?
Yes. Characters who are dropped simply disappear from the village, presumed to be murdered by the monsters in the forests. They may reappear again as different people, with different backgrounds. There are always similar individuals in the world. It's nothing to worry about, except for the emotional pain it may cause to those who are close to the previous version of the character.
Can my character be related to another character in game?
Yes, but we will highly suggest you contact the player to match up your background before writing your apps. If you have no idea how to contact the player, please feel free to send an email to the mod account and request for us to contact the player on your behalf.
Events?
Events do and will happen. Nobody quite knows or cares why either. Think of it as a thunderstorm. When it happens, it happens.
(ETA 6/27) What about characters with strange body attachments? For example, the Arrancars in Bleach. Having a hole in your body is not so normal.
It will be considered a deformity that most villagers (read: NPCs) will be too polite to even mention. Can't say the same for playable characters though.
(ETA 9/10) What happens if I'm not comfortable with writing smut scenes? Can I still play?
Of course!! It is perfectly fine to simply fade to black if that's what you are more comfortable with!
