I figure that much. What's it about? We didn't have anything like all these holidays back home, not really.

Spending time with people you like, getting presents, decorating pine trees, eating a lot of baked goods, and celebrating the birth of Christ.

It sort of varies a little depending on who you ask.

[ How can he not-- Right. Different times and places. Man. ]

It's to celebrate the birthday of Christianity's core figure: Jesus Christ. Although, I've heard the twenty-fifth of December may not have actually been his birthday. That's besides the point. The details and history of why people celebrate Christmas, you could probably read in a book.

Anyway, it's kind of, uhh, developed into the central purpose being to celebrate and appreciate the people you care about. Because even people who aren't christian tend to celebrate it. People buy gifts for each other, wrap them up with ribbons, set them under decorated pine trees and wait until the morning of the twenty-fifth to gather around and open them together.

I guess, it can be as big of a deal or not as you and your friends and family want it to be.

Brother, Brother! [Al sounds really excited.]

There's a man who comes and gives you presents for free if you're good! His name is Santa! Isn't that so cool?! If you're bad, he just brings you some coal.

We didn't celebrate it in Hinamizawa, or at least I didn't, but I gather they do in other parts of Japan. All I know is that you give presents to people and there are lights in town.

What, you didn't have Christmas in your virtual world? How odd.

Virtual world? Ah, we didn't have it back home in Amestris, no.

Or just 'your world'. Whatever you want to call it. The place that was significantly different from this one, here.

What did you celebrate, then?

Right.

Mostly just birthdays? We didn't really have holidays.
