[The audio starts with a brief whine of feedback. After working with nanocommunications for so many years, switching back to an old fashioned broadcast can be a little strange in itself. But Snake is nothing if not adaptable, and old habits are easy enough to fall back into. People familiar with Big Boss will recognize the voice. Different in the ( Read more... )

[It takes Kadaj a moment to realise that that voice didn't belong to Big Boss (or that if it did, Big Boss had suddenly contracted Liquid's amnesia). Briefly he considers checking in with Liquid to make sure the man wasn't going to do something too stupid... but then he just shrugs. Snake could deal, and Liquid... was Liquid.]

They think they can tell us our memories are fake. [In a way, he's testing. Would Snake remember who he was, or had he forgotten, too?]

[Something is snapping inside of Liquid.

There's too much anger, too much twisted rage and fear and despair and hatred and Kadaj is simply pushing buttons without thinking of what they do.

Liquid's hand curls into a fist at his side and before he knows it, he's throwing a punch at Kadaj's cruel, pretty face.

He doesn't shout, or rant, or even shift his position.

He simply and silently punches Kadaj, rage written in every line of his body.]

[Oh, Kadaj knows what those buttons do. He's spent a long time with Liquid, and made a game out of needling him until he snaps. It's not the first time Liquid has punched him out of anger, and it certainly won't be the last.

He staggers, pretty much straight into Snake. And he tastes blood, grimacing a little as he recovers from the hit, wiping his mouth on the back of his hand. But then he simply turns to face Liquid again, meeting the man's eyes with a challenge burning in his own. Not afraid of you, Liquid. He never has been.]

Or maybe you're just scared that once he's stronger, you won't be able to.

[Kadaj is childish and selfish, but in his own way, he understands.]

[Not that he minds not getting kicked in the face, exactly, but seriously what is even going on anymore.]

[Snake catches Kadaj by the shoulders when he stumbles into him, lest the two of them end up on the ground. He lets go immediately as Kadaj talks back to Liquid so he can step between them. Liquid's myriad issues be damned, right now he's just attacking some bruised kid for daring to break up the fight.]

Liquid.

[He's spitting blood and still catching his breath and somehow it still manages to sound like a warning, even if he's in no place to be giving them. He's not going to say "it's me you want" 'cause that's too cliche even for him, but he's seen what happens to people who try and get in Liquid's way.]

[Liquid looks honestly shaken by the words, even more so by the fact Snake just stepped inbetween them. Did the idiot truly think he would kill Kadaj over this? Did Snake even know who the hell he was protecting?]

...Kadaj, I am not afraid of him!

[It isn't a lie, not quite. He's not afraid of Snake. He's afraid he's going to fail, again, just like when Big Boss wiped the floor with him so easily. Liquid's confidence is already fractured badly and he's got a lot of anger built up inside of him still.

Hadn't the little girl told him they'd gotten along once? She'd referred to him as their grumpy uncle. Playful terms and playful words, as if she was convinced there was no real threat from him. As if she knew he was going to fail. Why was he thinking of that now? Why was he thinking of the casual way that the people he was trying to kill kept talking to him? Almost friendly. Absurd. Everyone was too damn cocky, too convinced he wasn't any sort of threat. It was going to drive him mad, he was certain ( ... )

...Idiot. [Whether Kadaj was talking to Snake or Liquid was debatable. He pushes a fist into Snake's side-not a blow, just firm pressure, almost a shove-as he steps around him. As though he intends him to move out of the way. Stay out of the way. He knew Liquid wouldn't kill him. Whether he would really kill Snake, though, he's not so sure. Don't provoke him again, idiot.

Moving to stand by Liquid's side, apparently completely unconcerned about the fact that the man had just punched him in the face, Kadaj shrugs. In contrast to mere seconds ago, when he speaks his tone is almost solemn.]

So wait. You can beat him later. [When it means something.]

[He doesn't know Kadaj like Liquid does, but he doesn't really care at this point. Kadaj may be a brat, but he's never really given Snake much reason to be antagonistic toward him, even back in Siren's Port. And no, Snake doesn't trust Liquid not to go through whoever dares to stand in his way.]

[But he doesn't try to stop Kadaj from brushing past him. He watches the exchange, sullenly wiping blood from his mouth with the back of a hand as Liquid addresses him.]

Not exactly giving me much of a choice.

[He's right not to, but Liquid isn't about to alienate the one true ally he has in this place. Liquid's reasons for keeping Kadaj around are multiple, but one of the strongest is simple enough. He doesn't want to be alone. It has been just over a month and a half since he came to this place and Kadaj has been there since day one. At first it was simpler. The kid seemed pretty disturbed that he didn't remember him, so he had allowed him to stick with him. Then he'd found out how low Kadaj's survival skills were and annoying as he was, Liquid didn't exactly feel safe throwing him out into the wild on his own. By then, however, he had found himself starting to like the kid and by then, both of them had spent so much time around each other that it felt almost odd when Kadaj was at school. Liquid was not about to kill the kid, even if he saw absolutely nothing wrong with beating him to a pulp when they were sparring. Kadaj had proven he could handle it. His body relaxed slowly at the man's approach and calm response. He was not calm, not ( ... )

[Liquid may be relaxing, but Snake doesn't move, tense, fixing Liquid with a glare. He doesn't bother with an answer, nothing he could say right now would change Liquid's mind about trying to kill him. Not right now.]

[Next time they meet, things won't be nearly this easy. This is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity you're throwing away, Liquid.]

[He knows.]

[Somehow, it's harder to meet Snake's eyes than it should be. He still does it, but it's definitely difficult. It takes him a minute to tear his gaze away. He brings a gloved hand to Kadaj's mouth, checking the injury. An easy way out, he supposes.]

Cat got your tongue, dear brother? Or did you bite it too hard during one of those falls?

[Aren't you happy that the brat found you first, Snake? He may have just inadvertently saved your life. Better make it worth his while by ensuring that fight is extra entertaining when it finally happens.

He bats Liquid's hand away impatiently, unappreciative of his fussing, and throws an amused glance over his shoulder at Snake.]

He never talks, and you never shut up. You really are opposites.

[Your concern is heartwarming, Kadaj. He would have come up with something. Eventually.]

[Want him to talk, Liquid? In that case he will, obstinately, continue to be quiet for a while, though he does utter a low growl in response. You're not interested in anything he has to say. He's not going to waste his breath.]

Fine, thanks.

[Tongue's fine. The rest of him is too. A little battered, ribs aching, and bleeding from a split lip. Hurts, sure, and he'll be colorful for a while. But he's had far worse before.]

Stop glaring at me like that.

[Stubborn, insolent man. He wants to punch him even harder right now, but he doesn't make a move. It would be so easy to just shove Kadaj aside and attack the man, beat him to the ground and empty the FAMAS into his smug face.]

Of course we are, Kadaj. We're opposing halves of a copy of him.

[That before or after you had your face smashed in, Snake?

...Just going to glance between you two because seriously, what the hell. And people say he has issues.]

You're both stubborn, though. Idiots. Are you just going to stand around all day?

[...Preferably before. And people say you have issues because you do have issues, Kadaj.]

[He huffs in annoyance and glares at Liquid again for good measure. Not that he'd mind putting some distance between them but Snake's not going to waste his time and walk off if it means Liquid is just going to change his mind in the next ten minutes and hunt him down to start this all over again.]

Sounds like we're done here.

Snake. I'm not about to just give this up. I'll give you time, but one way or another, this will end here.

[Liquid just smirks back and turns on his heel.]

You might want to get out of my sight, Brother, before I forget myself.
