Hey, I thought I'd comment on your journal instead of that now-buried "Bones" post.
Macedonia is great! Well, I mean, not economically, but I love the culture. Living there really forced me to grow up and look at the world in a different way. It's my second home now. I had to leave 3 weeks ago, and already I'm missing burek! I brought back one jar of ajvar that I'm sloooowly eating (to make it last).
I've also been driving my folks crazy by using random Macedonian phrases in conversation. They pop out! It's easier to remember, "Pa, dobro e!" instead of, "Yeah, it's fine."
Aw, it's great to see that it's made such an impact on you. I've only got pictures and family members to go by, but I'm sure it's even more amazing when you're there. I have yet to visit it (we haven't left the US since we got here :/), but it's so my #1 goal.
BUREK. Believe it or not, I just finished off the last piece my mom made today. :) It really is quite delicious and not too hard to make.
I just looked at your profile and you seem to be living in FL. This state is filled with Bosnians.. and our stores. I don't know if there is a store in the city you live in, but here in Jax we have like 10. And all include all kinds of imported ajvar from the Balkans. I see a trip in your future... hah.

I have a friend who lives in Jax, and I owe her a visit. I'd love to pop into a few Balkan stores and feel at home again.
P.S. My faaaavorite burek is with spinach and sirenje. And I love pita with pickled cabbage.
