Dealing with accounting is the biggest hurdle I've had to being on my own. The thing that freaked me out and kept me up nights. The one good thing about my loser partners is that there was always someone else do deal with that nonsense. A year or so on it doesn't seem as daunting as it used to.

My accountant is a very nice lady, and I have the advantage that my company makes money, which keeps her from rolling her eyes too hard, but even so I can at times see her grind her teeth at my casually good-natured contempt for the whole enterprise. I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm a long-haired hippy-freak egghead who shouldn't be let near an account book.

The good news is that contempt for accounting correlates well with business success. The bad news is that you still have to pay attention to it.
