Ask Dr. LJ: RFID

Dec 20, 2006 10:47

Any of you know stuff about RFID - specifically, how it is popularly implemented in key-card form - and be willing to talk to me offline about it?

Why yes this has to do with my latest crazy invention idea.

invention, technology

I know a little bit, but probably nothing the wikipedia page couldn't tell you.

From all I've seen out there (from the paranoid angle) it seems that some kind of 'secure' RFID might be useful. But a recent article indicates that RFID cloning can occur in under 5 minutes now.

I'd think the RFID product (in general) is great. I'd love to be able to check out all my groceries in 30 seconds, but I know that the reality will never meet the hype. And besides, I don't WANT to have to nuke all my clothes to kill all the RFID chips in them...

Sorry my comment is less useful, but security is oft overlooked in RFID. Perhaps that's part of your idea.

Nah, my thing'd probably make ID theft easier than ever, in all likelihood.

I'm happy to talk about it offline, BTW... I just don't want to blog about it yet.
