I just told our lawyer that it was OK to compare his current situation of keeping multiple clients happy to that of a zookeeper during feeding time, so long as we got to be the monkeys.

Lately I've been taking the attitude (semi-tongue in cheek) that the Singularity has already happened, but we just didn't notice. Ubiquitous cell phones and the Internet have changed life so much, even compared to 10 years ago, that I think you can make a case for a difference in kind rather than in degree.

It's tongue in cheek because it's tied to my belief that we live in the future, which has as much to do with the calendar year as anything else. Also because I can't download my consciousness to a computer.

But it's serious because of how much of our lives are stored on or are communicated through computers. Sure you have to eat, but you pay for it with a credit card, an electronic abstraction of money, which itself was an abstraction.
