Monday coffee ramble

My parents finally picked up a Globe to check real estate prices 'round here. They didn't believe the numbers I have recited to them, until now. But then this led into another long lecture (in the academic sense) about home-buying strategies, so I know it didn't really discourage them from their dream of seeing their youngest become a homeowner; ( Read more... )

If it's up for a vote, I'd rather not see entries like this cut. Horizontal screen space is one thing, but I don't see a problem with taking up vertical screen space. And I am also much less likely to read something if it is cut, even if it's from someone I normally read (like you).

I dunno. I just got in the habit of if it's something that takes more than a page, I lj-cut it or a bunch of little weasels from the corner of the room will start chanting it. I guess they've got into my brain again.

It's not a sign of disrespect, I usually go through and read through a lot of lj-cutted foo anyway if someone does it with a good leadoff prefixing the whole thing.

The thing about vertical scrolling is that you're going to have to do it anyway to read your friends page. And I guess I'm just too lazy much of the time to click through, even if it sounds like I'd be interested to read it.

I'm personally okay with this not being cut because it's a bunch of seperate discrete entries. If it were one long rambling blob then I'd be complaining...

I'm really tempted to offer to help out with the Java client, just because I'm impatient too and want to see the basic system up and running. I'm supposed to be doing other things, yes, but maybe a little Java programming will help me clear my writer's block (if that's what it can be called). Is there any chunk of the code-writing that could be easily farmed out?
