Quitting

Jan 16, 2008 21:14

As of today, I have quit smoking.  (22 hours and counting)  I'm trying the new stop smoking drug, Chantix, and so far so good.  Hopefully it keeps working!  This is my first serious attempt to quit in years, and I'm determined to make it work this time, so wish me luck!

Chantix is what finally let me quit. Monday made 22 weeks. Good luck!

Out of curiosity, was the plain 12 week course of Chantix enough, or did you stay on it longer? I'm headed to get refills in a week or so, and I'm trying to figure out how many I should ask for...

I got one refill, but I didn't finish it. I probably did 7 weeks total. I think at first I kept taking it every day because it was what kept me from smoking. By week 7 I had no desire at all to smoke, so that stopped being a constant reminder to take the pills and I started to forget.

I am tremendously proud of you! With the money you save on packs, you can buy some rather nice wine to celebrate, too! :)

And extra-special good for you on posting on LJ about it -- great to see it!

Unfortunately the savings are eaten up by the expense of something else to silence the oral fixation ... for me, it's chewing gum. Theresa seems to be going for mints.

But mints don't cost nearly as much, so I can still get a bottle or two with the savings:)

Obviously you are going to become the weird people in your neighborhood. "There go the Bakers. They don't have any kids, they talk to their pets and they REEK OF MINT!"

Thanks! (Off topic, but will you be at Portus?)

Sadly, no. Phoenix Rising ate up a lot of my budget, and I'm studying abroad next spring, so I really need to save for that. :( Are you going? And is that the one with the Snape festival?
