Fanfic and fanvid recs in the following fandoms: Alice (2009), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Center Stage, Enchanted/The Dark Knight and Gilmore Girls.
Alice
Dreaming too big: la_victorienne (Alice/Hatter ficlet)
This backstory and how her father's disappearance had affected Alice is so plausible, and her finding what she was looking for in Hatter is lovely.
Brooklyn Nine Nine
Perpetual Motion: salr323 (Amy/Jake, post 2.20, sequel to ‘Pros and Cons’ which I previously recced.)
Loved how the situation - so well described - and Jake disarm Amy and make her look again at her certainties here, and the h/c of it all. I could have done without the coda.
Center Stage
Let It Go: Dirty Diana (ensemble)
Great dancing vidlet (I love how it intercuts different dances) with emotional resonance.
Enchanted/The Dark Knight
Once Upon a Crime: Gaia Faye (Giselle, Joker, teen, 2-parter)
The premise is that Giselle meets the Joker, and the writer pulls it off, with both characters being true to themselves. There is somehow real tension alongside the absurdity. It reminded me of ‘The Lego Batman Movie’, which is a plus.
Gilmore Girls
The Things She Knows: Lula Bo (Lorelai/Luke, set during the penultimate episode of season 4)
This expands on the wedding day so beautifully. I believed Lorelai's interior monologue, from the word association to the parsing of what was happening and what she was feeling.
