Fanvid and fanfic recs in the following fandoms: Arrival, The Lady of the House of Love (Angela Carter - The Company of Wolves), Lord of the Rings, The Man from UNCLE (film), MCU, Pride & Prejudice (2015 adaptation), Pacific Rim, Push and The Shape of Water.

Arrival

The Scientist: violace (Louise/Ian)

This vid is an excellent condensation of the familial/love story with the encounters with the aliens. So many resonant encounters between lyrics and images, too. Loved the emotion of this.

The Lady of the House of Love (Angela Carter - The Company of Wolves)

Love and Death: Miss M (Soldier/Countess, M for war, violence)

This sequel is impressive, following the once rational young man to the front, where the supernatural element works well. The use of language lives up to the original, also.

Lord of the Rings

A woman’s history of the world: Altariel (Eowyn-focused drabbles)

This is very good at what led to Eowyn's valour, and I loved the last drabble, how it tied into the first and the growing hope for her.

The Man from UNCLE (film)

because you’re mine, I walk the line: youareiron_andyouarestrong Gaby/Illya post-movie ficlet

Beautifully written ‘forced to share a bed’ trope, with ‘forced proximity reminding you of being forced to share a bed’ with denial, vulnerability and melancholy.

MCU

Girl On A Ledge With a Gun: shorti (pre Maria/Steve) Part 2 of 'The Spirit and the Shield' (I believe I recced Part 1)

Great characterisation of both of them, and a great job on what's swirling between them.

Pride & Prejudice (2005)

Do You Dance?: AurumCalendula

A lovely vidlet, full of movement and building up on all the feelings.

Pacific Rim

Shut Up and Drift: CherryIce (ensemble, gen)

This is a great action vid, and one to bop along to. As it's about drifting, it brings in various relationships really well to remind of the heart of the film.

Push

changing our names in the sky: musesfool Cassie/Nick futurefic

A variation on Cassie going after what she wants and Nick's denial fails to outrun reality. Loved how the physicality of their interactions was written.

The Shape of Water

I make my home in you: novermbersmith (The Asset/Elisa, Asset POV)

This is excellent. The poetic nature of the writing, the way everything is framed by his river for the river god feel so right, and express how love transforms him beautifully.
