Killing Eve 2.4

Was this last episode of Killing Eve better? Well, yes, but some things were a bit obvious, like Zoe Wanamaker’s OTT boss, talked down by Carolyn (who lied her head off). See also the killing in Amsterdam, although that was the point, those are the jobs on offer for Villainelle now. It was more obvious that Carloyn is as much Eve’s handler as Konstantin.

I’m not entirely sure I should build an ‘even-numbered episodes good’ theory.

Bad behaviour and bravura costumes to enjoy from Villanelle.

The Ghost stepped up her programme and gave Eve more clues about her.

Stop trying to make Nico the bad guy for being annoyed you didn’t tell him you were going to have security at home, Eve. Although his description of the kind Eve he’d fallen in love with made us aware of how little he knew her.

That businessman she wanted to kill violently was egregious, though.

I am mildly concerned for the future of Jess’s baby. I had something to say about Oxford boy but I forget what it was.

It is Carolyn keeping you from Eve and vice-versa, Villanelle - just saying.

Agents of SHIELD 6.6 Inescapable

This episode was Fitzsimmons in SPACE! Well, the representational space of their own minds, but stil.

I’m going to get my one big peeve out of an episode I enjoyed hugely, even with the horror elements, out of the way: that girl playing seven-and-a-half y.o. Jemma was fine except for every time that she talked, and they’d clearly got an American doing her best ‘generic’ English accent, except there’s no such thing and she sounded nothing like Henstridge. And, also, to British eyes, her bedroom seems improbably large, because I don’t think the Simmons are posh, but I’m going to handwave that as representational space and how it felt to Jemma at that age not lack of Brit!picking by production design.

Everything else was awesome. The mindmeld rip off. ‘We’re in a mind prison!’ Jemma’s not wanting to tell Fitz everything all in one go ending up with Fitz finding everything out…all in one go. Emotional wallop after wallop. One of them also was May being so open and vulnerable.

And lots of funny - their bickering. I decided to laugh at Ringu!Jemma - it was hammed up just enough. Like Fitz said, she needed therapy. And Ringu!Jemma/Fitz!

We were give delightful bits of backstory, from the inception of Fitzsimmons (we’ll maybe leave the ‘friendzoning’ thing) to Coulson recruiting them (the powers that be that chose them would be MAY!!!)

I loved that they had their friends saving the day - lovely that it was Mack after seeing his grief, and another spanner in Enoch’s works, although E did the right thing and got the cool transportation device because of it. (I am going to make ‘who is Fitz’s best friend the sub-theme of this season.) And of course, it was another example of their shared brain.

I just want to list all the things I enjoyed and appreciated from the return of monkey!Fitz, to Jemma the explosives maker, to all the history they have on each other. Take it as read that it was most of it.

And to end with Mack and Daisy (Jemma’s BFF) after their appearance in Fitzsimmons’ adventure, with her, like Fitz, but not quite like, not being up to speed yet. NICE ONE.
