Home Fires 2.5

For a second I thought Nick hesitating over his relationship with Theresa meant that he still wasn’t over unavailable Sarah. Or maybe I hoped as much. Later events undermined that slightly, but it’s duly noted that he made a confessor of the woman pilot who was exchanging loaded glances with Theresa.

I don’t think anyone has come up with a better solution for the delectable Bob at home than Erica’s drugging him.

Oh, Steph, don’t be mean to the blind woman who’s never been harvesting before. That leads to...collapsing from exhaustion.

The beginning of the Blitz is a fair enough reason for Noah’s grandparents to want him out of the city, but I did feel that Sarah could have taken him in instead of forcing him on Frances. She needs to process at her own pace.

I would have thought everyone was meant to be keeping quiet about things like investigations into dodgy parachutes, THOMAS. Even if their wing commander has let it slip.

The more we learn about Joyce, the more intriguing she is.

All the WI/village coming to help Steph and Little Stan was lovely, although if they’d got a move on instead of chatting, they might not have been harvesting under the moonlight.

Eek, an armed deserter! Maybe it’s a good job Sarah did insist Frances took Noah in. As Sarah was in a bit of mild peril, I realised she was my favourite character AND CANNOT DIE.

Nice contrast between the deserter pilot’s view of flying and Joyce’s belief that her son would survive because he was fighting for good.

Okay, writing all those letters has made Nick think of marriage. I accept the acceleration of him suddenly getting serious (and I can still believe Theresa is a rebound, and maybe he’s started falling for women who are somewhat unattainable) because wartime. But she was so obviously uncomfortable to be there at that time, and it felt like a rather cold proposal on both sides. Accepting it won’t end well, will it? (This can’t be it for Sarah/Nick, even if it’s Theresa’s angst that’s getting most of the attention now.)

I know Frances has been consumed by personal drama, but she is about the only person who didn’t know about the parachute silk investigation. And Alison was, once again, trapped in a horrid situation.
