Roxy seems to me to be a play on Foxy Brown and feels very seventies. I have a vague memory that they play this up in the vignette of how Roxy died

Roxy's death is extremely 80s. We se her on what could have been the set from Fame, and she dies by being strangled with a leg warmer (which she has just invented).

If you didn't know already, Clancy was initially intended to be gay. I don't know if that has anything to do with the last name "Lass"...?

Oh yeah, there was a moment suggesting they were going there in the pilot. I remember seeing that a few weeks ago and going 'huh?' because they didn't follow it up.

Great thoughts. I hadn't realized the Joy -Lass connection, but it's very fitting.

Another thing about Rube is that although the definition is a country bumpkin, people often use it as someone who's a scapegoat. A rube is supposed to be unintelligent, so you use one to get yourself out of trouble. Considering that he has no power over whose name he writes down on the post-its ("I didn't know you when I wrote your name down, but if I had I would have written it anyway, that's just how it works..."), but he's the only one visibly attached to the decision, he's definitely someone's scapegoat.

Thank you for commenting! As I'm not American, I was only vaguely familiar with the connotations of 'rube', but what you're saying about Rube as a scapegoat is really interesting. Right at the beginning of the series he's definitely a focus for George's anger, too.
