Thursday night is BBC night

But first to go back a little. The majority says that Wolverine/Rogue is the most mainstream of my pairings, which makes sense. Thanks for taking it. Anyway, Wednesday, I watched Dead Like Me and Reggie's tree!!! One of DLM's defining images.

Okay, last night. The Innocence Project...( Read more... )

You're now the third time I've read someone mentionging PG in relation to this show and I have to admit I'm totally confused - I see no realtionship between the two whatsoever, no reason why anyone would make the comparison between a 17 year old cult TV show and this formulaic BBC...thing. Is it that they both have a young cast ? Because that's the only thing I can think of. Hmmmm.

I absolutely hated it personally. It was made by the same team who did Waking The Dead and it shows. Nothing original about it at all, dull, silly, terrible script, no pacing, no hook, no sense of humour, cliche ridden. I could go on, but I won't. One of the worst things I've seen on television for many years for me, and am most worried PG seems to be being linked to it !

The State Within, other than Sharon Gless who is superb, is also a dissapointment. Again, it feels silly and contrived and with a substandard script.

Am a very dissapointed TV geek at the moment.

IIRC the first I heard of the show was a link via holding on. The connection or comparison with PG is very tenuous, I agree, but I'm fairly sure that that's where the comparisons are coming from. It could be argued that there was something in having a team of young'uns investigating a case and doing better than the 'grown ups' and the Law Leader as a kind of Matt Kerr figure, but then there are pleny of other shows with that you could make that link with.

The lack of originality and cliches were part of what I enjoyed about it, frankly :)

I don't think much of Sharon Gless's performance, though in fairness, that's because I find her character particularly two-dimensional (not that the characterisation of any character is truly multi-layered in TSW). Both shows worked as pretty escapism for me, I'm sorry that they disappointed you.

Ah yes, I'd forgotton that ! Make it 4 then. It seems we can thank that article then, as that's got to be the reason it keeps being referenced as why else would anyone mention PG ? Drop The Dead Donkey maybe, very similar settings and style of delivery etc. but this ? It had more relation to Hollyoaks meets Judge John Deed to me.

I do like a good piece of fluff, don't get me wrong, but it hs to know what it is and revel in it. This just took itself far too seroiusly.

I'm the opposite on Sharon Gless, she's the only one who feels like a layered character to me. So much hate bubbling beneath the surface. Everyone else feels so one note. I'm enjoying it though, it has potential to get exciting and it's very stylish.

I think Hollyoaks meets Judge John Deed covers The Innoncence Project nicely.

I find fluff that takes itself very earnestly mightily entertaining, though.

Plot-wse TSW is very racy, and it does look good - I think the Beeb were aiming for The Stae of Play and The West Wing, though I dont think it's that calibre, and - this influence is strong in audiovisuals Spooks and 24 (though no split screen yet).
