Picarats 003 [VIDEO/ACTION IN ROUTE 30]

[The video turns on to what seems to be somewhere on Route 30, though not too far from the exit of Cherrygrove. The screen shakes around for a bit as the Professor is trying to place it on some log and aims it towards himself. It takes a few seconds, but when it is set properly, he nods and takes a seat on a rock. It's quite bothersome to ( Read more... )

I don't get your fixation with puzzles. [ pauses for a bit. ]

... The guy waits until the sun sets to avoid gettin' fried.

[The Professor chuckles. Oh Netherlands, you will never understand the Professor's deep love for his puzzles.]

I find puzzles to be very interesting and enjoyable to solve. But I guess it's not for everyone.

And you are correct, Mr. Netherlands! If there is no sun, then the magnifying glass room is quite useless, no?

[25 picarats for you, including the extra 5, a total of 30 picarats! RUB THEM INTO EVERYONE'S FACES]

Would you like another, sir? Or are you fine?

Eh. They can be interesting sometimes. [ Though he's probably heard variants of a lot of them before. Having been around for 1400 years kind of does that. ]

... Sure.

Alright then. Here is another one:

"A man was admitted into a mental institution for being thought to be clinically insane. He denied that he was, so a doctor has given him a test. Leading the man into a bathroom, the doctor has handed the man three objects: a spoon, a cup, and a pot. He was told to empty the tub filled with water. In a minute, the man got rid of all the water and was declared sane. What did he do?"

[25 picarats for this one again!]

The man waits until it's night to enter in the first door. Since there's no sun, he won't get fried.

That is correct, Miss Kazehana! Like you said, if there is no sun, the man cannot become fried.

[25 picarats for solving it on the first try, and an extra 5 since he's nice, totaling 30 piacrats! SHOW THEM OFF YEAAAH]

That was a very fast response. You are quite good at these puzzles, if I say so myself.

[She chuckles]

Thank you, Layton-San! It was an easy one, at least for me! Can I have another? This is funny!

[Yeaaah 30 picarats!]

Haha, of course. A gentleman can never refuse a lady's request.

"Two convicts are locked together inside a cell. There is an unbarred widow in the cell, but high up. Even if they stood on the beds or on top of another, they could not reach it to escape. Finally, they decided to dig a tunnel out, but gave up after digging for an hour. Suddenly, one of the convicts had figured out how to escape. What is his plan?"

[Another 25 picarat puzzle! Give it a shot!]

You seem down professor...anything I can help with?

[She pauses to think of the answer, only to find that that one is rather easy once you think outside the box.]

The magnifying glass only works with sunlight, so naturally he waits until nightfall to escape.

Van!

[She contnues walking along the path while she's talking. She does want to get to Cherrygrove soon after all!]

Oh, Mrs. Sunderland...No, I'm quite fine. Thank you for the offer. I would just like to keep some thoughts off my mind...

[And once she solves the puzzle, that is just what pushed those thoughts away and cheered him up.]

Correct! It is pointless to think about escaping through the door with the dragon, so the only logical way out is through that second door.

[And 25 picarats for solving this on your first go, along with an extra 5, a total of 30 picarats for you! SHOW THEM OFF TO THE WORLD]

Are you in Route 29 at the moment? From the look of the background, it would seem so.

Of course. I...I can understand completely.

[Mary smiles at that.]

That one was a bit easier on me. The magnifying glass...I saw Laura doing that once to ants while we were at the hospital.

Ah yes, I'm still carrying on. My pace isn't the fastest out there.

[She laughs a bit.]

Thank you for understanding...It is not a topic I like to dig deeper into...

And is that so? That is not a very kind thing that this Laura girl has done..

Do take your time, ma'am. I would not want you to trip over anything on the way.

[There's a long pause as Larry looks like he's seriously giving this puzzle some thought.]

... Dang, this is hard.

[Yeah screw these hard puzzles. Even though the answer is rather obvious.]

I bet there's somewhere to buy flowers here. I mean, if there's a café where girls dress up as Pokémon, there's gotta be a florist.

[The Professor chuckles.]

Please take your time with it, sir. Haste makes waste, as they say. I could afford a hint if you like.

Oh, is that so? I would not know why these woman will dress up as Pokemon, but I do hope that there is a florist around. I would rather not resort to picking wild flowers around here, considering they may be Pokemon.

[Yeah...He doesn't even want to get started on those pink flower things he saw a while back....]

[Looking a little more frazzled than the last time you might have seen him, getting hopelessly lost in forests and caves isn't fun :<]

That's mad, Professor! Why would there be a dragon in a room? [And what the heck is a magnifying glass?]

But...what would happen if the man opened both doors? Would the dragon walk into the other room? Then he could leave through that one!

[video] profpuzzle September 12 2010, 20:48:15 UTC
[Oh boy, when the Professor starts getting lost in the cave...BATS BATS EVERYWHERE AHHHH]

Haha, this is just a puzzle, Alfred. Let us just imagine that dragons exists and there is one in the other room.

That is incorrect. The man has no way of luring the dragon to the other room. The man only needs to open one door to escape.

[Picarats are down to 22.]

[fklajsf USE FLASH AND CARRY AN ESCAPE ROPE, PROFESSOR! I don't think hint coins work in caves.]

Okay... [LITTLE SKEPTICAL HERE.]

Um...can he dig his way out? Or...what about sunglasses! A lady on a sheep used those to keep the sun away!

[I DON'T HAVE FLASH ASL;DF And hint coins for getting hints from bats on how to leave the bloody cave?]

That is incorrect, my boy. When the man was placed in this location, he had nothing on him to help him escape. Also, remember that as soon as he walks into the room with the sun, he'll burn away.

It does have to do something with keeping the sun away, but think outside the box.

[Picarats are now down to 18. You can do it!]
