You deserve a giant round of applause for this. I find some of the problems here tend to be found in any work or comment that mentions Clive, not just Clive x OC fanfics. He's also one of my favourite characters, but it's hard not to forget all that he's done in the game (which includes destroying a good chunk of London) and that the guy has a lot more to him than just "oh my god, his parents died, the poor thing". Yes, his parents dying did motivate him into doing what he did, but there's more than just that.

Thank you very much! I'm glad someone sees him the same way I do, he's a really interesting character, but nothing in his backstory excuses the horrible things that he's done. To write about Clive you need to acknowledge in some way that he's really not a wonderful person, which is what most fics about him sadly seem to ignore (Clive/OC being the main offender, but also Clive/Flora and Clive/Katia fics are guilty of it too).

BRA-VO, miss. This was fantastically done! Honest, raw, and humbling. I dig, I dig.

Also, the London Life references were wonderful :D :D :D :D

Thanks very much! :D I'm just sorry there wasn't any of Layton himself in this one, but Barton really fit the bill more.

Glad you noticed the London Life references too! One of my favourite Layton writers often references actually London places in her fic, which I think is really cool, but I don't know a lot about the real London myself, so I figure that London Life refs are a nice homage. :3
