You can try searching for Layton stuff on Yahoo! Japan auctions here. The watches are getting rarer these days and show up less frequently, but you might find it there for less. However, keep in mind that buying from there also requires a middle-man (unless you have someone in Japan who can get it for you) and that ends up incurring fees, conversion fees, shipping, etc. It eventually all comes out to about the same, at least in my experience :p

Good luck, I hope you score one! They're really lovely and well-made. I'm still missing one of the original Last Time Travel ones and I want it soooo bad XD It never shows up anywhere anymore, very rare.

Also, I should be at NYAF as well, just look for a really small Chinese girl dressed as Remi. Or attempting to dress as Remi. I've never cosplayed in my life before, so I hope I won't look ridiculous XD

If you really want an easy-to-get pocket watch for cheap, I suggest getting the State Alchemist pocketwatch from Fullmetal Alchemist instead. Though not the same as a Layton one, it's just as freaking amazing.
That, or you could roam the steampunk sites and they should have some nice ones..

Believe me, I wouldn't dare touch any Layton cosplayer... It took me twenty minutes to gather the courage to even TALK to the Professor Layton I met at CT-Con... ^^U
