I've never done a fic commentary, but I've always wanted to.
I'm still working my way up to it, but I had a really interesting conversation with my beta about the first scenes in Static, and I thought you guys might like to see that. Because I put a ridiculous amount of thought into this stuff, and, well... I like talking about myself.
SO.
(
tl;dr THIS FIC CONTAINS AWKWARD REFERENCES TO SEX. here's how! )

All of this is a very long way of saying that when you're in high school English and they make you do close readings about symbolism and shit and you're like "NO WAY DID THE AUTHOR ACTUALLY INTEND THIS?" Well. Sometimes we do. Because I get told that all the time -- that there's no way Dickens meant this or that or the other, but really -- I can say he probably did because my own fanfiction is rife with metaphor and symbolism. Your quest to find la mote juste (think I spelled that right. French-speakers, get on me if I didn't) is so cool because, you know. Just goes to show you: fanfic is srs bsness!

But this is because I am not a very careful writer!

I love that you say "sometimes we do," identifying yourself as "the author," as an author. Leah I love you so much oh em gee.
Also way to stick by your word choice guns, ahahahaha.

Lol, whereas with me it's usually more a case of somebody commenting and going "I LOVE THE SYMBOLISM OF THIS" and me going "...I TOTALLY MEANT IT TO BE LIKE THAT."
I should get people to beta my stuff :P
