Yet more cat stuff: My Cat From Hell and other things

Fair warning: if you are not that into cats, this isn't going to interest you much. That's all this post is about. If you are, or just into animals generally, then it might!  Plus, I figure if my bud fireflower314 can do reviews or comments on Vampire Diaries or Leverage, I can do reviews on My Cat From Hell.  Right?

I've seen a few of the "My Cat From Hell" episodes, and I agree, it mainly seems like the problem is more the people rather than the cats. The cats may be acting out, but I find it odd the way people expect cats to act like perfect little creatures, without giving them the space, number of litter boxes, and attention they need.

The first cat I lived with (it was my mom's cat) every one knew had a three pet rule. You could give him three strokes and then you backed the hell off because if you didn't you could loose a finger. I got a pretty good gash on my lip once when I walked into a dark kitchen, reached for something on the counter, and found an angry/hungry cat instead. Once he was fed he was fine, but he was like the joke on some coffee mugs, you didn't bother him until after he had breakfast.

My opinion, once you know the cat's ground rules, you can probably live at peace, but not all cats will be lap cats, a lot of cats don't like to be held, and most importantly, they aren't dogs.

I've not seen this show but now I think I need to tell my mom to watch it. Her (departed) cat was one of the meanest things on the planet. In fact mom even still has Booma's old food dish that says "Cat from Hell" on it! Which is funny... considering the name of the show.

Booma was one of those cats that was very affectionate, she'd rub on you and beg for a scratch. But anyone who knew her knew that three strokes was it (always EXACTLY three). On that forth stroke Booma would suddenly snatch your arm and bite the shit out of you!

My husband called her the Holy Hand Grenade because of the counting thing... "Thou shalt pet her to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number of the petting, and the number of the petting shall be three. Four shalt thou not pet, nor either pet thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out."

Mom used to keep a bowl of band-aids on the coffee table for guests - I'm not kidding! :D

My goodness, that does sound like the same cat, all the way down to the bowl of band-aids, although ours were in the bathroom. Funniest thing her cat ever did, bite people in the back side. There was a chair in our house that everyone who lived there knew not to use because there was a small gap in the back where someone not suffering from an eating disorder might have a bit of back side sticking out. He would come around and chomp on anyone's rear-end who was sitting in that chair. We eventually got rid of the chair.

I like the Holy Hand Grenade thing, that is funny.

One day several years ago my mom and I were sitting at her table drinking coffee when out of the blue Booma jumped up, bit the hell out of mom for no reason, then jumped back down and sauntered back into the living room. Mom said, "God! What would happen if Booma didn't love me?"

I said, "I think you'd have to move out, mom."

I bet you anything he'd say to try play. Lots and lots and lots of play. His thing is "Hunt, Catch, Kill, Eat." I never thought about this at all, and I never worked at play/exercise before. I am stunned at how much exercise my cats seem to need--like half an hour or more of hard chasing after a mouse or a birdie on a stick. Until they are actually lying on their sides going "PHEW." My girl especially needs tons of exercise, then they get something meaty to eat. And then they calm down and rack out.

Otherwise most cats have too much energy and they blow it off on stuff like attacking people.

My guys don't have real behavior problems, but she's a bit of a scared-y cat and I figure it couldn't hurt.

Rin would like to inform you that he has always been a good cat and that he resents the thought that he might be otherwise. And now you must feed him soft food in order to get back in his good graces and even then he will only consider it. It may take multiple feedings. He's not sure.

Pazu on the other hand would like to snuggle but there's a dog in the way. You understand.

The human in this house is just grateful for the most part she's got pretty awesome pets including her cats. Rin is very laid back and will let you do just about anything to him without biting or swiping. Pazu is just nervous and doesn't like Shikamaru chasing him. The cat likes the dog though, because I've seen them cuddle and he's head butted Shika and Rikku. Which in cat speak means I like you.

I got lucky. And it's made me realize that deep down I like cats on my terms, but I am a dog person more than I am a cat person. And it's all due to the little guy with the feather who stopped me one fourth of July morning.

Ain' nothin' wrong with being the crazy cat lady. :)

I recently switched the food my boys are on. I used to give them Iams dry, but I was in the pet store where I buy litter and asked about food. The girl was really nice and showed me where they had Iams, but recommended trying a different brand because most of the food they have is organic and better and blah blah blah. The boys seem to be doing okay on the new food and if it helps with shedding... I'm all for it.

As an addendum, I really want to watch this show now, Prof, but I don't think it's available anywhere other than on TV, which I don't have. :)

I watch it streaming from Amazon. Not free/free with Prime, unfortunately. They've also got it on ITunes, so I think you can probably get hold of it. You can also see clips on the Animal Planet web site and some cool stuff on his YouTube channel, TheCatDaddy66. And DANG I just saw the new episode and I can't believe how many problems that poor crazy cat had, and I do mean crazy!

Are your guys on wet or dry? Because those sites have me just about convinced that wet's better for them. I'm test driving it and it's too soon to tell yet, but they definitely seem to like it :)
