i accidentally bought dried plum instead of dried mango at the asian market. it tastes musky like a deer made of fruit.

Could be salted dried plum, maybe? Those have a definite funk to them.

I've only had venison a few times in my life, but I'm pretty sure that it's not supposed to taste musky...?

maybe I am using the word incorrectly, but that's what it struck me as. a sort of earthy, animalish taste/odour at the back of the throat when you're eating it.

I think that's called "gamey".

is it salted plum? if it's that you can pit it, chop it up and mix it in some rice, it'd cut the flavor a bit and might be more palatable? i mean if it's that, i like it that way
