The Dilemma

I have a dilemma. I had hoped it wouldnt come to this but it did. I cant say it's unfortunate but i have 2 job offers. I am having some internal conflicts because both will take me on very different journeys and i dont know which one to take. So in a way im trying to make better sense of it by writing it down here.

Company A : Gahmen linked company, doing business development
Pros
- Better benefits package, notably the salary, which is a 25% jump from my last job
- Personal interest in the industry, but not necessarily the job scope

Cons
- Gahmen company. Even though its doing BD, it isnt quite the same as BD in the private sector. My biggest fear (which is likely to come true) is the drop of my commercial value. I am afraid of getting "stuck" there.

Company B: Japanese MNC, doing regional product management / marketing
Pros
- Industry is not as exciting as A, but have interest in the job scope. Also more aligned with what i've done in last job
- Employability: Job scope is also more marketable (pun unintended) in long run
- A much better brand name to put in resume compared to A for sure

Cons
- Package is inferior to A, but still a 10% jump from last job. However, this means there is a 15% gap between A and B. Doing a little math, this 15% when compounded annually, taking into account bonuses, will let me go on several holidays to Europe.
- Japanese company. Even though it's rather ummm for lack of a better description, Western-ised, i think it still retains some elements of the traditional Japanese work culture. Moreover, my would-be boss is a Japanese.

OK, after putting it down in points, it is clearer and i think i can summarise my dilemma as such:

Long-term commercial employability and brand glam VS Short-term financial gains and interesting industry

But now im wondering, how can i have my cake and eat it? How can i take A, but yet be assured i have commercial value in the long term? Will my (future) fluency in the Japanese language help? That is one risk i have to decide if it's worth taking.

A friend advised "If you still cant figure out which one you want, just take the higher paying one".

Edit: In this age of Web 2.0 and social networking, it's quite interesting to check out would-be colleagues on Facebook. I reckon hot babe quotient could be a deciding factor :p

career, work, job offer
