Not sure how I missed this til now, but very glad I stumbled over it at last. Since others have already beat me to several favorite lines and observations, I'll mention that I loved the connection of the title to the last paragraph. It didn't register with me at first, til I went back up to the top to bookmark the story and then wham...

Many thanks! It has always been one of my favourite titles for a novel, and I was pleased that Mels gave the opportunity to use it so appositely.

You're going to get tired of my adoration. I hope it takes a long time. Must go read more.

Found one ;)

I recently was re-watching the first two Torchwood seasons and I was really sad that they did not more with Tarot girl. I guess they thought they had a bit time ahead to explain her better but then nothing came out of it. So nice to have fanfictions for that.

As for the ending, I always wondered what happens when the person wearing the lipgloss is wetting their lips... Would they poison themselves? And did Jack knew before he kissed her or only afterwards?

Yes - I suspect that we might have seen more of Tarot Girl in canon if things had turned out differently. Oh well - never mind.

I've always assumed that the various lip-glosses which we see (River's hallucinogenic one, and the more lethal ones used by Melody and John Hart) were tailored to the individual physiology of the user: harmless to him (or her); effective on anyone else. This might explain why they are apparently so hard to come by: only rogue Time Agents and bespoke psychopaths have the necessary contacts. My assumption is that Jack knew before he kissed her; it's a trick with which he has reason to be familiar. Many thanks for the comment!
