Ok. In practical terms what does this Torture Bill mean for us. And our enemies. And our allies. And the poor bastards that are going to get accused of terrorism.

Does this mean we don't have to outsource to Syria?

Yeah, that kind of knocks merry hell out of "Dubya" listing Syria as a member in good standing of the "Axis of Evil," dinnit? The fact that the administration is defending torture and shipping innocent men as well as "the worst of the worst" to "the Axis" doesn't exactly proclaim our righteousness from every mountaintop...

BBC Radio 4 had an interesting half-hour programme this past Monday (25 September) as part of their "Uncovering Iran" season: "Mixed Messages and Secret Diplomacy." I didn't know that the U.S. worked some back channel diplomacy to enlist Iran's aid in toppling the Taliban in Afghanistan before the "Axis of Evil" speech ( ... )
