Did you find every single one of those "dark" looks that John gets? I think you did! In the context you put them in, I can totally see him thinking "Why doesn't he love me?" and it made me tear up a little. Love Rodney's confusion but then they seemed to get it right in the end.

The part where John set down on the floor beside Rodney gave me goosebumps!
