Nice.

I can't say I'm shocked by anything that they did, especially. Though I'm pleasantly surprised to see Hatesong and Strip The Soul make appearances. I suppose I'm more surprised by the things that they didn't do both nights. With as key to their set as Deadwing and Blackest Eyes are at the moment, I'm a bit surprised that they did them each only once and hoped they came out.

Should make for a good DVD I think. No projection issues like you had or anything?

I'm not surprised either. I mean, it's what one would expect from this leg of the tour. And it's representative of IA and DW, their two major label releases. And assuming that the DVD comes out on WEA or a derivative thereof, it makes sense to focus on the material released on that label.

No word on projector problems. I did hear that SW broke a string on Lazarus the first night, and they stopped things to restring, and he made a big joke of the whole thing...'So sorry...now, where was I standing? Was I standing like this?'

That's funny.

When I saw them on the IA tour, he either broke a string or knocked something severely out of tune during Waiting, quite early in the tune. Stopped, switched guitars, moved along to whatever was next and never looked back. Bit of a bummer, as the old tunes on that tour were a bit few and far between.

It's tough.

I respect bands like PT who are always forging ahead and focus on their newest material rather than create a setlist where the newest songs are almost exclusively still 20+ years old (ref. Yes, 2000-2004).

At the same time, I've always felt that it's a downer when a setlist is pretty much the two newest albums, and little else (ref. Pink Floyd, 1975, 1977, 1980-81 tours).

It's hard, when you are a band with a decade or longer history, to be all things to all people. I can see with some bands where you have to limit your setlist, especially if you are tied into multimedia like projections and inflatables and stuff...like Floyd, or now PT. But to ignore your newest material in favour of just oldies and goodies...or to ignore your catalogue in favour of just the latest and greatest...it's...difficult to put into words.

At least Dream Theater changes up their setlists fairly regularly...
