It's a shame that its taken this long for me to update, after all a lot's happened since May 16th 2005 when I underwent a 9 hour operation that may yet change the course of my life

At the moment, I'm the only "LJ friend" you have, so I'm the only one who's reading this. If you join interested communities (try cancer_support and cancersupport) you can post to those groups, and get feedback from other people in your position. A good way to find communities is to go to your own user info page and click on the relevant interest - be it "cancer" or "vegetarianism" or whatever - that takes you to a page which lists groups (and individuals) with the same interest. Then click on the group name to find out about it, what sort of thing is posted there, and check the group's user info. You usually can join up there and then. Then, when you make a post, you can select whether to post to your own journal or to one of the groups you're a member of. I know many people cross-post - i.e. copy the text of a post and post it in one or more appropriate groups as well as their own journal. it's customary to put [cross-posted to xxxx] on such posts - I see it a lot in the "medieval studies" and "middle ages" groups
