She’s smiling.

And then she’s falling, Michael’s hand on the curve of her spine to guide her where he wants her, which, evidently, is on her back, on the bed.

Her shoulders hit the mattress first, and then the pull of gravity has nothing on the pull of her desire; she’s lifting her body to meet his mouth as he sinks down beside her--over her--and then turns her head on the pillow to grant him access to her neck. The sunlight through the window is filtered, a soft speckle of yellow dancing on the smooth curve of his braced bicep and--oh.

She hears herself exhale in faint surprise. “Wait.”

The arm in the forefront of her vision flexes as he shifts his weight there, holding himself still over her. “What is it?”

She smiles again. “I don’t know…just--” She shakes her head, lifting one hand to his cheekbone to smooth away the sudden question she’s placed there. “Nothing. Déjà vu.
I feel like I’ve been here before.”

He bends to her again, nudging her chin with his nose to kiss the underside of her jaw. “We have been here. We’ve been here for months.”

She indulges him. She tips her head, her eyes meeting the ceiling. She still can‘t shake the sense that each movement between them has already been mapped out. She feels acutely in-touch. Hyper aware. It‘s quite the way to make love. “I mean right now. This moment.”

“I would have remembered. I would have made sure you did, too.”

But that‘s the thing: she already does.
