Sketch dump -- Dr Sketchy Edition!

Good grief, it's been AGES since I've posted anything artsy! I know I open every art post with a resolution to draw more, but hopefully I actually mean it this time. I've just discovered Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, antidote to the common figure drawing class! I had crazy fun, and I'll definitely be roping together a group of friends for the ( Read more... )

They have them here in Boston, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to go, but now you're reaction has intrigued me.

You should definitely give it a shot! If it's not your cup of tea, you don't have to stay the whole time. If the Boston one is anything like the New York one, it's certainly worth checking out. I think you'll have a blast!

Cthulhu: I am amusedly reminded of Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama.

All the others are super awesome! Very nice and clean sketches. I'm especially impressed with the left-handed drawing--really difficult to do, but you captured a really great sense of gesture there. Other favorites of mine are the 1 minute poses.

You should bring some charcoal sticks next time if they allow you to do that--you should loosen up a little bit with some of your drawings and not be afraid to get a little messy. Stray lines can be awesome too!

Afternote: How were the NSFW drawings NSFW (except for the woman [man dressed up as a lady? Can't be sure, thanks to the website]) sporting that lovely rear end?) Other than that one, the rest of the 10/20 minute sketches seem perfectly fine to me for work. I can't really tell what's going on in the last one though--the contrast isn't showing up very well on my computer. I can see Cthulhu clearly enough there, but the rest of the picture is a bit light. Is the last one a photograph of the drawing?

Thanks, Lishbee!

I considered picking up some charcoal, but I wasn't sure if I was going to like Dr. Sketchy's, so I didn't want to spend a lot on art supplies. I just picked up some conte crayon in black, white, and red-brown, though I only felt like using the black. I'll pick up some good pencils for the November 10th session, then maybe raid my art supply stash at home over Thanksgiving break!

As for the NSFW warning, I figure better safe than sorry. Some of my friends have very liberal policies on what they deem worksafe, and I overcompensate for them by being a little more conservative than is probably necessary.

All the the pictures I posted are photographs of the drawings, except for the first 10-minute drawing, which I scanned. My scanner is TINY--only 8.5x11--and I was drawing on 18x24 newsprint, so photographing was the only reasonable option. :D
