It seems that many of the really big decisions in life essentially make themselves, and the role of a human brain and consciousness is to create a story behind the decision and reconstruct its cause-and-effect underpinnings. I meant to say that, since we are not always aware of everything that's happening around/with us (and I think it's impossible to be aware of everything, as the passage of time often opens up multiple new perspectives on things previously thought thoroughly understood), it is hard to capture what one's life is all about at any given moment of time. Things are mobile, changing and often end up being quite different from what they seem at the first sight.
In other words, we have little *conscious* say in our big decisions as well as in seeing our life in general.
