I've been thinking about that. I'm a little worried that I'll spend a year renting a storage unit only to go to grad school somewhere like the west coast and have to decide whether or not to spend another $1500 to move it all somewhere else.
You're not wrong, though. I look into some prices. Thanks.
People have so much stuff. I feel like storage units are overused.
I've always found family to be a reliable route for storage of things you absolutely want to keep (like your china), but if you don't have family members who are reasonably close then that might not work.
Also, I know your big furniture things remind you of how you once had a stable, grown-up life, but maybe there are other manifestations of stability and grown-uppity that you can focus on while you are living in a smaller place. Less tangible things like a balanced checkbook, strong friendships, or responsibilities you wouldn't have had as a youth.
See this is hard for me....my first response is storage unit only because the things I've bought are my prize possesions. I love them and they are mine. While there are probably things I could get rid of...I'm always in the mindset that I'll need that one day or use once in awhile. It's a hard call. I say if you don't know what to do with them now get a storage unit. It'd be better for you to decide down the road rather than regret down the road. You know? *shrug*
