Hmm, my only suggestion would be to buy the DVDs online and use a converter--the fandom isn't very supportive of handing out downloads since the series didn't earn a whole lot from what I heard, and we all want to support the makers and distributors properly. You can probably get the best quality that way, too.

That's a shame, I'd have thought it would've done quite well, it seems fairly popular. I'll have a look for the DVDs and might get them depending on the price (money's a bit tight at the moment). From what I've heard, doing that is fairly complicated and doesn't work too well if you try to do it with a laptop. Have you done it yourself?

I would have, too--it's a real gem of a series, and I wish it was more popular when it ran. But that's pretty much the reason why (from what I have seen) a lot of members of the fandom aren't very supportive of giving out the downloads.
The complete box sets aren't too expensive, I don't think--you can get the 2011 complete set for around $25, for all 26 episodes. IMO, it's definitely worth it for such a great series. XD
I also run a laptop, and it's actually something I've wanted to do, myself. I'm very (verrrry) helpless when it comes to computer software though, lol. So while I've looked around at different DVD converters, I've been too hesitant to try any out just yet. ^^; I remember being curious about something called 'Handbrake' though.

I use Handbrake on a laptop (MacBook), and it's working well enough for me ^^

Seconding what was said above. Please buy the series and support it that way. The DVD quality that you can rip is better than anything else you'll find anyway.

I see that you're actually from Scotland, where it's DVD Region 2, and thus the US DVDs wouldn't be able to play on your computer. This has come up in the past, and I do commiserate -- it's not fair that we N. Americans hog all the Tutu goodness =(

Ultimately though, downloads of copyrighted content shouldn't be posted publicly here, for the Tutu LJ comm's sake. To the other members, please leave any download links out of the comments. (I'm a mod here and this has been an issue before, so just preventing problems before they arise)

Actually, region 1 DVDs will play on our PCs, it's just our DVD players, playstations etc it wont play on. Which is a bit of a pain since it would be nice to watch it on a big screen.

Oh, well, then at least you can certainly make AMVs with the R1 DVDs! They're pretty easy to find online, so that would be your best bet. ^^

Also, it's a bit complicated to set up, but there are ways to hook up a TV monitor so that it will display (as well as the sound) whatever is playing on a computer screen. I use that method to watch HD Crunchyroll streams on our big screen. XD

Torrents? [Ahiru] release seems to be the best quality you can find, and their files are in MKV that means you can "hide" the subs.

Unfortunately Sony Vegas 9.0 and .mkv files don't go well together :(

There are converters that allow mkv to be made into other video files, fyi. Did that for a Star Driver fandub clip I made back in the day, from mkv fansubs.

I find the converters themselves to be rather hit-or-miss, personally. I have problems with mkvs that are "converted" that my editing software still can't read, for some mysterious reason.
