Angel in the Snow
The Gryffindors were loud and boisterous, playing in the snow. Standing beneath sheltered archways, the Slytherins mocked and jeered. Theo was with them, but he remained silent, standing apart from the group, his eyes on one among many.
Her cheeks were flushed from excitement and activity, brown eyes sparkling with merriment, full lips curved in a smile before her mouth opened in a laugh. She fell to the ground in a flurry of snow, flailing in the drift, and jealousy wrapped around his heart and squeezed when she accepted the hand up, hopping away to leave an imprint behind, delicate flakes of snow clinging to the soft brown curls of her hair.
"Mudblood," someone nearby sneered.
He ignored them, watching her. 'Snow angel,' her lips said, explaining to her friends. A turn of her head, and her eyes caught his, and her lips formed one more word: 'Yours.'
Reality caught them up, swept them away, but he held close the knowledge passed in that moment of silent communication. His angel, in the snow.
