What may be wrong with me

Jul 29, 2008 17:12

Well, I may have myasthenia gravis, which would totally explain why I'm so damned weak and TIRED ALL THE TIME. I had blood drawn today and have an MRI scheduled for Friday at 6:45am (yeah, I know.) It's a scary disease, but I keep hearing "it's treatable"; so I am trying to be upbeat. Problem: I'm not naturally upbeat. At all. Ever. About anything ( Read more... )

Oh, that's terrible. Is there anything I can do for you?

Laugh at my Spinal Tap joke?

Otherwise, I'm afraid I'm kind of... I don't know. I'm not sure whether to be glad that it would explain my life the last few years or be scared for the future. Nothing to do but wait and see.

Wish I had had onion rings for lunch.

Oh, hon, that is suck-town! Keep us posted, and you'll be in our thoughts.

Also, I totally laughed at your Spinal Tap reference. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help cheer you up.

Thanks :>

Just hearing that is great for cheering. :>

You know, I have been embarrassed to tell you: but i've been too tired (and now too broke) to get the glass/plexi redone, so I just hung it up the way it is for now. i figure i'll enjoy it this way til i get my shit together. i can look at it from my (red) sofa, and I can't even see the break from this angle. :> It makes me happy.

Oh, Margo, I send my best wishes and thoughts for you. Please keep in mind that they say it is treatable, and do keep trying to be positive. At least it seems now you know what's going on with you, and I hope that's some relief.

....what's Stonehenge, btw? (apart from the obvious stone structure dating back to 2200 BC)

Thank you, Bo :>

The Stonehenge thing is from the movie Spinal Tap. Just a silly reference.

It seems like lately you've had one medical slap-in-the-face after another. It's hard to keep your spirits up, even if you had some mutant alien super-cheerleader outlook. ::hug::

At the very least, though, you know what was causing your scary blurred vision and persistant tiredness. Did you talk to your doctors about working with and around the diabetes so that your new myasthenia treatment doesn't make your losing weight for diabetes more difficult? I'm sure you did, but what did they say? Is there no other alternative treatment to steroids?

I didn't get the Spinal Tap/Stonehence references either. Is this from the faux documentary, This is Spinal Tap? I still need to see that...

It won't help with the diabetes, but my main hope is that I will have enough energy to excercise! that's my biggest stumbling block, and the thing that the drs say will pull me back in line. I'll never be thin, of course, but I just hope I can be healthier and not so Jabba-the-Huttish. :>

Thank you, I will :>

The neurologist called the opthamologist (who is my uncle) and privately said he's 99% sure that I have it but needs the blood work and MRI to be 100% sure. So I've already resigned myself to a life of steroids, but there is already talk of a thymectomy, which would fix some stuff but also could cause other stuff.

It's a waiting game right now; you know how it is.
