I ran across a very...interesting passage in one of my gagillion books for Women in Chinese Literature the other day. Taken completely out of context for your convenience (storyfan, I'm particularly interested in your reaction to this):

Someone pulled him out of the chair, then sat him down again...It was a reclining chair. He had napped in this chair ( Read more... )

So it's a delusion or a fantasy? It almost sounds as if Che Ganzi is either ill or is indeed on some mind-altering substance. Is this a master-servant relationship or something else?

Whatever it is, it is wonderfully slashy. I do hope Che Ganzi gets more than a fantasy, though.

Would you rec this book?

This passage is actually the only remotely slashy thing in the book. And it is basically a delusion. Che Ganzi was driving drunk/ill and manages to make it back to his dead boss's tavern alive but delirious. The person taking his clothes off and cleaning him up is his dead boss's wife (one of the book's two protagonists and Ganzi's eventual love interest).

As for rec-ing, it's an interesting read if you're interested in Chinese chastity culture (remember, I had to read this for a class) and not very long (only about 160 pages) so if you want to check it out, go ahead. It was ever so slightly mind-numbing for me because I've been reading stuff like this all semester.
