because: a) walmart wants to take out this big tract on land. with lots of trees. i happen to be pretty fond of trees. aren't you? b) they want enough space for 767 parking spaces. so, they want to take out a bunch of trees and pave it. i don't like pavement, really. c) route 3 is already hell. do we really need a massive walmart with 767 parking spaces, so it can be rush hour every minute of the day? d) they'll kill k-mart. i happen to like k-mart. martha stweart makes me giggle. not everyone likes k-mart, but they were here first. e) there's a walmart 6 miles away in bowie. and 2 about 10 miles away in glen burnie. f) it's walmart. walmart is known for their exploitation of thier workers, and the little kids in china/india/third world countries.
well, i dont really like trees. and industrialization is inevitable, if they dont build a walmart, they'll build something else. if they build one in crofton, that means we wont have to drive all the way to bowie and risk getting our car stolen, because the walmart in bowie at night is not a good place to be. exploitation of workers? i may be cruel, but i dont care. & a petition really isnt going to do anything. i mean, it brough HFS back. whoopdeedoo. but i dont think its going to stop the walmart executives.
plus, i like getting my smiley face sticker when i walk in the door. ;]
you know, not liking trees is somewhat hazardous to your health. trees do provide us with oxygen. i don't shop at walmart. so, going to bowie at night just to go to walmart isn't really a problem for me. but, why go to walmart when there's a k-mart that much closer? that lot's been empty for a while because of some kind of zoning issue, i'm pretty sure. so, unless they rezone it, it will remain empty. and the GCC has some control over that. so, a petition could easily do something.
those are some good points. The only reason I'd want thier to be a walmart is so I can get a job that will acctually work me. and it'll be anouther cool place for me to hang out.
those are only two reasons though. You have like 42938409238 reasons why their shouldn't be one. and all of them make A LOT of sence. so kodos for you. I think you won me over to sign that patition.
IF subway doens't work out I have a back up (shoppers or giant). but if they do build a walmart I'll probably end up working thier.BUt I agree that it is very unnessasary to build one.
I have mixed feelings about it. I don't want it in Crofton (seeing as families in general are pretty prosperous), but I'm not against Walmart in general
well. someone has to like them. they've been pretty damn successful thusfar.
but.... there really isn't much need in crofton. plus, if people really want to shop at walmart, they can drive less than 10 miles in 2 different directions and go to walmart.
yeah. one of the facts people were touting about walmart is that it lowers the wages for all workers in a community, not just at the walmart, by 5%, which doesn't sound like a lot, but that can be the difference between a living wage and the poverty line.
but, really, what is walmart doing in croton, anyway?
