Ashenden At Last

For whatever reason (intellectual sloth, most likely) I hadn't read the Ashenden stories by W. Somerset Maugham until ratmmjess essentially shamed me into it. Have you read Maugham's novel The Magician? It's kind of proto-Denis Wheatley, with a villain so blatantly based on Aleister Crowley that one clever editor got Crowley to write a review of the book. I haven't been able to track down the review, but the novel's fun.
