I went elk hunting yesterday, up in the redwoods! With my camera, of course. ^^

They are some amazing shots. How close did you GET?! Or did you use a zoom lens? I can see why early settlers in the new world thought these guys were basically stocky red deer..the resemblance IS there. However incorrect it has now been proven to be.

Big Daddy was about 20 feet away from our car; the younger stags only about 10 feet. All were more or less oblivious of our presence. ^^ We got to see about a dozen youngsters, too! Adorable!!

They're practically my neighbours! It's awful living so close to them, and yet not be financially able to visit them, even occasionally. The last time I saw the herd at Fern Canyon was 9 years ago...

Yep! They're all wild, though since nobody here harms them, they are very tolerant of the presence of people.

It was perfect! I imagine he was likely the father of most of the fawns we saw...
