Yeah but almost everything Mario is good quality. So, really, that's not selling out.
Also, the only reason star wars is so popular is because of the merchandising it did when it begun. The only way you probably know about Star Wars is because of George Lucas's "selling out" in the first place. Otherwise Star Wars would've fallen between the cracks like any other sci fi of the time.
Come on mate 'Mario party 6', yeah thats a classic...'Dance Dance Mario' yeah just as good quality...
Although it is true that its merchandise was a big factor in the success of Star Wars, the origional first two films are classics, being the real factor why Star Wars origionally gained such a big cult following.
