Old garments cast aside

Back in the 50s my church apparently went through a legalistic phase, the 'no smoking, no dancing, no makeup' kind of thing and of all of that only a lingering whiff of 'no dancing' was left by the time we came around to it.   For the past 20 years every time dancing came around (even the chicken dance at a party) there were always a few older ( Read more... )

Hooray for teaching belly dancing at church! And why not? Of course, I say that as someone who doesn't get why a church would object to dancing at all. Was it all dancing that was banned, or just dancing between opposite-sex partners? Were you allowed to dance with your spouse? What about things like line dancing, where it's all one big group? It just seems very weird to me. Anyway, I'm glad your church has grown out of that, and is now on to belly dancing. : )

I have no idea! I suppose it was intended to stop those Crazy Youngsters from Doing Things Together, heh... certainly not Biblical as the Bible has plenty of dancing going on in it. :-D People are funny that way. If they were still in that mode we wouldn't be going there, it's a good bunch of folks.
